Half-way around the world

Mapchina My mom is going to China tomorrow. (CHINA!!!!) Halfway around the world. She’s freaking out. She signed up for the thing in a moment of 1.) adventurous spirit and 2.) peer pressure. And she’s kind of regretting it. She doesn’t even tell people she’s going because she will have to talk about it and she just can’t talk about it because it makes her too nervous. If you knew my mom…you’d be surprised she’s got the guts to do this. Choosing the right shampoo can be a decision that makes her nervous…paying too much for car insurance makes her very nervous…traveling halfway around the world is something that is off the nervous meter for her. Poor mom. I think (hope!!) she’s going to have a great time. She’ll enjoy herself in spite of herself. She’s going with two good friends, teaching for two weeks and touring for two. Bought herself a digital camera which I am INSISTING she use at full resolution. She’ll only do this once and have only pictures to show for it, I’m really hoping she takes advantage of the picture situation. Anyway…. Please send Mom your non-stress-have-fun-be-safe-halfway-around-the-world vibes. She could really use them!!

I’m sure it will be a completely amazing adventure! As Nic always tells me when I’m about to do something I don’t feel comfortable with…”but the Hobbits never want to start out on their adventures either, but they always have a good time.” (Here’s hoping your mom doesn’t run into any Orcs.) :P

OH! Forgot to write you back about this - I know she’s nervous, but it is such a fun trip!! It doesn’t sound like she’s traveled internationally or on such a long flight before. I’ll write separately giving “Julia’s tips for China travel” - I bet she’s going to have a great time tho!! :)

GOOD LUCK MOM… I hear you on the shampoo, or the car insurance. Frankly, those are larger decisions. :)
