If anyone knows the cold-hearted cop that gave everyone parking tickets at today’s field trip, let me know. I’d like to have a word with him.
December 7, 2006 - 7:01 am - ugh. meanie. why do people have to do things like that?
December 7, 2006 - 9:46 am - He should have signed the ticket. Schedule it for court. Good luck :)
December 12, 2006 - 7:44 am - NO WAY!!! I'd show up to court, just to see who it is! What a punk!
December 14, 2006 - 12:01 pm - When you show up in court...bring a bag of coal with you! That just sucks!!
Ok. I know probably no one comes to this pathetic, neglected blog anymore. That’s ok. I wouldn’t either. Except that it’s mine. And when I find myself extremely bored or avoiding something (in this case, a mountain of laundry and NOTHING good on tv) I’ll ramble on and on and make a fool of myself HERE for anyone to see. Sounds like a pretty good plan.
So the thing is…I’m thinking of getting a puppy. Our puppy’s mama just had babies, so our potential puppy is laying around right now, snuggling with it’s littermates. I’ve been thinking long and hard about whether or not I want a dog, and the wanting a dog seems to be winning. But it’s a big commitment… So…
Raise your hand if you have a dog and love it.
Raise your hand if you have a dog and regret it.
Raise your hand if you hate people with dogs and will never come over to visit because you hate their little dogs too.
And while you’re thinking, look at this…tell me what you think. Could you resist that?
(by the way…we got the house cleaned up. It’s better than before! {applause, applause, taking my bow})
December 5, 2006 - 10:25 pm - Shannon... After many, many discussions with the kids about puppies, researching breeds, responsibilities, etc., we finally decided the time was right. We have an 8 month old, full size Yorkshire Terrier named Parker. Terriers are notoriously more stubborn to house train, but he's getting the hang of it...he also responds to commands and plays catch until we're exhasuted. Despite a few mishaps, chewed-up socks and kitchen garbage can raids, he quickly became a most lovable member of the family. We adore this little guy...He is a never ending source of entertainment and unconditional love. I'm already thinking about getting another! It IS work...just like having a baby in the house...so, just like we did with our firstborn, read up and be prepared :) I say go for it! ps nice to see you've rejoined blog land!
December 6, 2006 - 7:30 am - He's stinkin cute. I say go for it! But if I stop coming over to visit, you'll know why. :)
December 6, 2006 - 7:41 am - Raising my hand that I LOVE having a dog! So tell me about this litter....border terriers? You've had one before? Are there more pups available? I need more scoop!
December 6, 2006 - 8:14 am - I really want to scream "DON'T DO IT!!!" I guess, due to recent unpleasant and painful experience with a puppy, my view is a bit skewed. I'll tell you this much--just be so so sure Shannon that you are ready. It was really hard to have a puppy and to also take care of four other needy children. People will say that we chose the wrong breed--maybe our puppy wasn't the best fit for our family right now (note: my sister and her husband are loving him!), but a puppy is a puppy. On those days when you already have a lot on your plate and feel overwhelmed, be ready to deal with more accidents and messes. It's having another "thing" to be responsible for all the time. Every time you leave your house you have to worry about making sure the dog is taken care of. For us, getting out the door with four kids was hard enough, and it was just really an added burden. I am sure some of your readers will think I am weak and cynical--the sting of our whole puppy situation is still very real. And I am admittedly NOT a true dog person at heart. The only other thing I'll say is, when my sister brings Zeus over to visit, we enjoy him for an hour or so, then Steve and I both have a HUGE sigh of relief when he is gone again. I don't think you will have the problem with your puppy attacking your little ones like we did, but it still really hard. Good luck.
December 6, 2006 - 8:19 am - We do not have a dog, but we are getting a mini-schnauzer puppy in THREE months! We already have the deposit in with the breeder, and at this point I don't know who is more excited, the kids or me! So of course my message is go for it!
December 6, 2006 - 8:58 am - Shannon, I just re-read what I wrote a little while ago and I'm sorry for sounding so negative. Geez! Hope you guys have a really positive and great experience with your dog. The funny thing is, while I had a hard time with my own dog, I really don't mind other people's dogs, so we'll definitely still come to visit...someday soon, I hope.
December 6, 2006 - 9:29 am - I say go for it! It can help teach your kids responsibility (if they help do little things to take care of the puppy), and it helps teach them to be gentle and caring with animals (something alot of people could learn!). Like someone else mentioned though, be sure that you're up for the messes and accidents that come along with puppies. Other than that, I'd say its a great idea! So happy you're back to blogging!
December 6, 2006 - 10:01 am - A) WOW, clean house, don't it feel fine? B) I am an anti-dog person, ESPECIALLY when we were looking for houses and the dog houses were DISGUSTING to go through. Smelly mostly, but they just seemed to say "don't buy me." At that time I realized that if I wanted to preserve my 1/2 a million dollar investment, I was going to live dog-free. Plus, you don't have a big yard... something else to think about. C) I think a new little montez would be cute. Why don't you have a baby instead of a dog? :)
December 6, 2006 - 1:35 pm - Don't not get a dog because of me. I'll still visit. :)
December 6, 2006 - 6:19 pm - love dogs. don't have one. allergies are a big problem for multiple members of the family. having a puppy is like having a baby in the house. but I LOVE Babies! ;) but it is a lot of work. I would come visit if I was closer and you knew me and so it wasn't weird or akward or something. ha ha. cute puppy though. would totally melt my heart.
December 6, 2006 - 7:18 pm - I don't think we're in a position to cast a vote inasmuch as one of our dogs routinely brought home deer and chicken parts and the other was rendered senseless by a refrigerator door.
December 7, 2006 - 4:07 am - I have a dog and love it. I'm a dog person. I've basically decided I will always have a dog. There is just something about having someone to come home for. She's my entertainment and she can be such a sweetheart at times.
December 7, 2006 - 7:04 am - hey shannon! i'm a big puppy lover. we have a pug and there are definitely times i would like to throw him out the window for his "puppy ways", but when i see him with jenna beth and the way he makes her giggle and when he cuddles on my lap and looks at me with those puppy eyes, my heart melts into a big puddle. call me a softie, but i love pups. they are a commitment though. i think in the early stages, they are similar to a baby...pooping and peeing all the time, whining about everything, needing constant attention. once you get past the potty training phase, life gets much better. good luck..and that puppy face is TOO cute. =)
December 7, 2006 - 7:34 pm - Can a puppy wear diapers while house training? Pull-ups? At least they can lick themselves clean.
December 8, 2006 - 11:09 am - Raise your hand if you're allergic -- that would be us...
December 8, 2006 - 7:53 pm - First off, continue to blog...I DO check....even though you don't know me. :) Secondly, get the dog. My hand is waving fiercely trying to get your attention. Dogs are good.
December 9, 2006 - 4:21 pm - gotta post on the nay - side of the puppy. Yea they're cute, love you unconditionally and all that great stuff... but they also have no respect for your stuff. If you leave it out - it is theirs. No matter how well you train them, no matter what the breed. A dog (or puppy) is going to eat, puke or piss on everything you leave out. I love dogs - as long as they are someone elses. I sound negative - sorry. Just think about if you could still love the dog after he/she ate all your brand new paper or someones album you just finished... because you didnt get a chance to put it away. Or a huge project you'd been working on... just something to think about. =)Love you!
December 11, 2006 - 9:45 am - Get the dog!!!! In the beginning it's a lot of work... but your efforts will be rewarded. If allergies are not an issue, GO FOR IT!!! The kids will love the pup!!!
December 12, 2006 - 3:06 am - this is a tough one. growing up i was a dog person. we always had a dog. but now i am the momma (read - responsible person) i am not feeling like such a big dog person anymore. still love them, just at someone else's house. :)
December 12, 2006 - 7:47 am - Count me as one who LOVES having a dog. We had two until we lost our chocolate lab this summer. We're in the process of moving, but once we get down there and get settled, we're going to get another one. I miss having a lab and our golden retriever/border collie misses having someone to pick on. There's nothing in the world like the love a dog gives---it's 100% unconditional and all forgiving. There's a reason dog spelled backwards is God. :)
December 17, 2006 - 7:53 pm - i have kitties because i am a bit lazy for the doggie thing . . . but that little face is fairly irresistible . . . :D
No.
See that dust? It’s on every single surface of the entire house.
Have I mentioned I love remodeling?
I love Dave for doing it. I love the finished product. But this… I could do without. And the money and time it takes too.
Back to work.
November 26, 2006 - 4:30 pm - Mmmm.... swiffer duesters.
December 2, 2006 - 7:51 pm - Shannon, thankyou SOOOO much for the awesome scrapbook stuff you gave Jami to share with us!! There was great stuff. I LOVE scrapbooking and the new stuff was really fun.
December 3, 2006 - 6:20 pm - Sweet dust bunnies! Have you made a dust angel yet? I'd like to see pics of the finished product.
December 5, 2006 - 3:09 pm - Shannon, I cannot wait to see the finished product. You guys have worked so hard on improving your house. I heard the kitchen looks fantastic! I second Lindsay's suggestion--please post pics! We are really looking forward to having you here in a few weeks.
I love this day.
I love that it’s not a total holiday, like a day off from school/work, but just a fun kind of regular day. You go about your routine, just a little fancier than normal. Fun fun fun.
I just got back from a little trick or treat party at Sophie’s preschool. So cute.
Big plans today of carving a pumpkin and making lanterns to set outside.
Big plans of eating way more candy than I ought to.
Good stuff.
And just for fun…some pics of the kids from last Saturday at their school’s fall festival. They don’t get to dress up at school- this was their only chance besides tonight. Good news is, the light was pretty good for photos in the afternoon as opposed to at night!
Franklin is THE goat this year. I made that costume when Shelby was a baby, and goshdarn I’m going to get my time and effort’s worth with that costume!
Sophie is a Care Bear. She loves herself in that. Shelby and Matt decided to be a two-headed person. I think they are hilarious. Especially from behind.
They’re wearing Dave’s old pants.
Just kidding. This whole costume cost me like $5 at the Goodwill. I like that! Way better than the effort that goat costume took…
October 31, 2006 - 2:49 pm - LOVE the two headed person. I was trying to figure out Franklin -- til' you said what he was. LOVE the goat. Nice job mom.
October 31, 2006 - 9:31 pm - You almost had me there with the comment about those being Dave's old pants! LOL The kids look great, and check you out making that goat costume!
November 1, 2006 - 11:24 am - ROFLBMO over the Dave's pants comment! What a GREAT costume! Love it! And that goat could not be any cuter.....so cool that you made it! And Sophie is a sweet care bear!
November 1, 2006 - 12:43 pm - lol, too funny!
November 1, 2006 - 3:34 pm - I am bummed we missed you at the carnival. You're kids look so cute. I love getting time/money out of costumes. We've used a frog and a bunny costume 3 years and counting.
November 1, 2006 - 5:42 pm - LOL...I'm sure Dave appreciates your comment. I love the two headed person outfit, very clever!
November 1, 2006 - 7:56 pm - Great costumes and cute kids! Sounds like you did some fun things.
November 1, 2006 - 8:26 pm - Love the two-headed costume! Genious!
November 1, 2006 - 11:09 pm - great costumes, and the one with the two-headed person is genius!
November 3, 2006 - 7:48 am - I love the costumes! Halloween is such a great holiday. Too bad your kids don't get to enjoy the at-school Halloween party. That was my favorite day at school. What is this world coming to? But at least they got a carnival.
November 4, 2006 - 9:22 am - Oh no - not the goat again!! :-) You should do a layout with each of your kids in that costume. Love the two headed person idea. They actaully stayed together the whole time?? So cute!
November 8, 2006 - 5:12 pm - Love the two-person costume!! So cute and soooooooo clever!!! thanks for sharing:)
November 11, 2006 - 4:33 pm - omg- such cute costumes!!! good job mama!
how excited I am to have these guys here?!
My brother Layne, his wife Jami, and their little dude Trenton moved out here several weeks ago. It has been SO COOL having them here! With just one kid, they’re free to come over and play games with us until late in the evening, just putting the little guy to bed in the other room. And it’s way easier to trash talk during games with your brother than when you’re playing with some other couple.
Trenton is beyond adorable. I love getting to play with a little nephew. I realized I’ve never lived near my own neices or nephews. It’s really fun having a baby to play with, but someone else to change the diapers!
And the babysitting. Man. It’s so nice to be able to trade babysitting. At least for me…it’s a four for one deal! I’m all over that.
I could go on and on. They are fun. I’ve really missed living near family. I’m so happy to have them here with us. It’s one of the coolest blessings I’ve ever received.
October 19, 2006 - 5:50 pm - Oh man, you stole my idea for a blog post :) I'm glad you're not getting sick of us. Game nights two days a week with us might be more than some people could handle!
October 19, 2006 - 7:42 pm - That is SO great, I miss having family here.
October 20, 2006 - 5:53 am - Lucky. Can I join? Maybe Keith and I will move out there to join the party. : )
October 20, 2006 - 4:06 pm - Wow, you guys are lucky! I'm miss those guys so much. Although Layne is super hard to beat at 'Cities and Nights'. I think Ron is enjoying beating me...
October 20, 2006 - 5:14 pm - Mom- I'm the one who's been winning these days :)
October 21, 2006 - 2:28 pm - how cool! we're getting ready to move "home" to Houston and I'm excited about being closer to family. wonder which family members we can talk into game nights and babysitting if we ever get pregnant?! ;)
October 22, 2006 - 7:09 pm - Shannon, I'm really dumb, but I honesty just realized (after reading your blog for about a year) I didn't have to have an account to leave a comment so here I go--- Wow, you're so lucky! I am VERY jealous. I hope you enjoy every minute (especially the four for one babysitting!)
October 23, 2006 - 10:48 pm - that is very cool:) what a sweet photo!
October 24, 2006 - 7:33 am - I have said this before, I am jealous of your party. So to assuage my envy, Jeff and I have been looking at med schools in Northern Cali. We all miss you guys but we are glad you have each other, I guess...
October 24, 2006 - 11:55 am - Shannon, I want so bad to say that I am so happy for ya'll, and I am, but I am a little jealous, too. Jealousy stinks. Even though I don't love playing certain games (the long, strategic ones--guess I'm not smart enough or something), I just wish we could be there to all hang out together. And the switching babysitting---heaven. Honestly, I am glad you guys have each other. We know how nice it is to have family around when you haven't for a long time. Enjoy it.
October 24, 2006 - 1:05 pm - What an adorable family : )
October 24, 2006 - 1:32 pm - Very cool, Shannon!! :)
October 27, 2006 - 4:36 pm - Glad you are having fun with your family. THAT is why I havene't heard from you - you are having too much fun!
Me again.
My parents were here for the weekend. It was so fun!! We went to the pumpkin patch, the beach, ate out, basically, just hung out and had a good time. Finally had that lunch in Chinatown that I’ve been trying to do for years now. My mom made us a Thanksgiving dinner yesteday. YUMMY!! Nothing like having your mom cook for you. Something about it is just really nice. Maybe I’ll post some pictures. Someday. When I’m not too lazy to unload my camera. But I didn’t take most of the pictures. I’ve found that carrying around my big ol’ camera is harder than everyone elses’ little point and shooters so I’m letting everyone else take the photos for once. Kind of nice!
I’ve been trying really hard lately to work of this last 10 lbs of pregnancy weight (that sounds so much better than flab, don’t you think?) and my grand total is…. 2 lbs. Up. I’m hoping it’s water weight or something. And they say that muscles weigh more than fat, so maybe I’m just bulking up. Right.
But no matter what, I feel better when I work out. Not just physically, but emotionally too. I just feel stronger. Like a better person. Like I’m in control of my own life and making things happen. So whatever. That benefit is so much more important than a number on a scale. Anyone want to join me? Challenges? Ideas? Anything? I’ve never actually been on a diet/tried to lose weight before, so this is all new to me. I didn’t want to face it before, but since the baby is now almost two and a half, it’s time.
October 16, 2006 - 2:55 pm - Haha, I hear you. I haven't lost a POUND Nada. Nothing. I'm ready to cry it off... So far, I am doing 90 minutes of aerobics, etc. on TV and 90 minutes of walking. I am doing smaller portions, and not eating after 7 pm. What's your big plan?
October 17, 2006 - 8:51 am - Get a puppy!! I lost two pounds this week without even trying (though that's the kind of weight that will jump back on in no time). I browsed through my Mom's Weight Watchers stuff a few months ago and I've lost about 7 pounds or so loosely following their points system. Fewer calories, lots of fiber, "deductions" on your total points for exercising. I guess it isn't rocket science--less in, more out. I would highly recommend the WW "Smart Ones--Bistro" meals. They are yummy and nutritious, and I will often throw one in the microwave when I am tempted to go get fast food. Wal-Mart sells them for the cheapest price. Good Luck! Glad you had fun with R & D. We miss you.
October 17, 2006 - 11:53 am - Throw your scale out the window! But honestly, despite my hatred of them, I wish I had one because I seemed to have a better handle on my weight. I feel stupid even saying anything but we all have our personal goals. My is my "Marrige 10". I am still wrestling with that. My only serious advice is as Mindy said, eat less and move more. The eat less part is what kills me. I keep praying that I will wake up one morning hating sweets, which are my downfall. So far it hasn't worked- what? I have to practice self control? Regarding the move part- once I made it a habit to exercise, I can't go without it without feeling like a slug.
October 17, 2006 - 12:08 pm - My goal is no milk chocolate. Only dark. It would kill me to cut it out all together. It's kind of a lame goal.
October 18, 2006 - 7:59 pm - I am a blog-lurker. More times than you will ever know I wonder if you are INSIDE my head. LOL! I had to comment on this one. I busted my butt working out 90 minutes everyday for SIX freaking months and GAINED weight. Muscle...or so they say, I just wanted the scale to show lower numbers...I totally gave up. After a weekend vacay, and seeing myself in the hotel mirror in a swimsuit, I am ready to try again. I don't know the secret, but if I figure anything out I will share.
October 19, 2006 - 1:48 pm - I am so with you, although I have more than 10 pounds of baby weight (yes...that sounds sooo much better than flab...and my baby is 3 1/2!!) to lose. Yesterday she said, "Mommy your butt jiggles...it is funny." and then laughed hysterically. I wish I shared her enthusiasm. When Jeff got home, I told him what she said. She then proceeded to lift up my shirt, point to my "flab" and say, "Mom, you have a baby in your belly...it is big...ha ha ha ha ha". Maybe that's all the motivation I need. =)
And the reason why is that I’ve been too busy WINNING things. Who has time for blogging when there is winning to be done?
See…it all began with the chili cookoff/pie baking contest at church. Dave had decided to enter his mom’s famous Avocado pie. The pie that, back in the day, won them the first microwave in the neighborhood in a Betty Crocker contest. He was fully expecting to win. I hated to show up empty-handed, so I whipped together a chili recipe found in my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. You know, the red-checked one that everyone has a copy of in their kitchen and has for generations. So I guess you could say I used an old family recipe. Only my family didn’t invent it.
Long story short, everyone wins a prize. For instance, Dave’s Avocado Pie won "Best Lime Pie." He won a rubber spatula. Me, on the other hand…as the prizes were going out, I became convinced that I wouldn’t get one. First of all, I had the audacity to show up with the chili in a pot. Not a CROCK pot, just a regular old pot. That’s practically grounds for disqualification at a church function. And I sent it with Dave, who was pretty sure he forgot to tell anyone that I made it. But lo and behold…last name read…was mine. OVERALL BEST CHILI. Yes, folks. That’s me. I’m practically worshipped at church now. AND I got an apron. A handmade (with love) apron with chili peppers on it. I am the champion.
You think that experience would be enough winning for me. But I hadn’t had enough, apparently. Last weekend was the triathalon. I mentioned it here before. It was an event that I got all excited about, talked some friends into it, then proceeded to chicken out for a month or so. But then my sister-in-law Jami, fitness guru and runner extrodinaire, moved here and got me off my butt. So I put in a good month of training. Which, shouldn’t be enough, but miraculously, it was. I really enjoyed the whole experience. Even though I could’ve done without the lake moss in my mouth, I would do it again in a heartbeat. And wouldn’t you know, I won 366th place. Which isn’t last place. Which was what I was shooting for. I figured out if I could shave five minute off my total time (which was 1 hour 29 minutes, BTW) I would’ve been in the top half. That’s my goal for next year…top half finish. But I’m happy with how I did this year. Finishing, not last, was my goal. Goal accomplished. Here’s the pic. I had to change it to black and white so you can’t see how shockingly red my face is. Jami, pictured with me, took 18th place. She probably could’ve won the whole darn thing if they had marked the course well enough so she didn’t have to stop and ask the runner behind her where they were supposed to go (which runner, by the way, was WAY behind her, as Jami ROOOOCKS at running! She was so far ahead of the pack there was no one to show her the way- I hope I’m not embarrassing you, James!)
If you look real close, you can see my winner metal around my neck. Everyone got them, but that’s because we’re all winners, I guess.
October 3, 2006 - 8:43 pm - Hey! Goooooooo YOU! I can't believe you did a triathalon.... I'm so not worthy to even post on your blog! LOL Cute apron you chili making goddess!
October 3, 2006 - 11:51 pm - That triatholon metal is neat and all... but that APRON... wow. That's all I can say. Wow.
October 4, 2006 - 8:38 am - That's AWESOME, Shannon!!! "Not last" is way better than most of us do, and the fact that you've already set a goal and plan to be there next year is HUGE. You ROCK!! :) So proud of you!!
October 4, 2006 - 8:42 am - I am just SO proud to be related to you (through marriage) :) (P.S. for the records: I'm pretty sure that if I didn't get lost, I wouldn't have "won the whole darn thing," maybe just cut off 30 more seconds.......:) )
October 4, 2006 - 9:14 am - Shannon, way to go! Seriously. I am so happy for you that you finished the triathlon!! AND that you did it with Jami. Fun. Can I just say that I was cracking up at the whole chili contest thing? Don't underestimate BH&G cookbook, baby. It's one of my favorites. I will be so disappointed if you don't wear your apron to make that special chili next time we see you guys.
October 4, 2006 - 11:26 am - Wow Shannon! You are awesome- I am so proud of you! I think Jeff and I need to move to San Jose. I feel that we are missing out on way too much- I want to be part of the party. You mentioning the cooking contest reminded me about your newly redone kitchen. You definitely need to post pictures of the "laboratory of delectable cuisine."
October 4, 2006 - 4:05 pm - Whohoooooo for you, Shannon!! Way to go!!
October 4, 2006 - 8:06 pm - We are totally impressed here in Kaysville! Love your celebrating 366th place. That you did the tri at all is so worthy of celebration (and a cooking master, too!). Way to go.
October 4, 2006 - 8:55 pm - Woo-hoo!!! SO happy for you, dude! and FYI..that's the only cookbook we own...

October 6, 2006 - 5:54 am - I'm so happy for you Shannon! I am singing "We Are the Champions" in my head...
October 6, 2006 - 3:10 pm - awesome on finishing the race - that is so cool!!! congrats on the chili cook off too!
October 7, 2006 - 6:42 pm - You stud closet athlete!! Welcome to the CPT!!! (Caldwell Pain Train) no more excuses from you. We can still get you signed up for June 25 in Idaho.....
October 8, 2006 - 11:35 am - hey shannon! congrats on both of your wins! completing a triatholon is amazing! so wonderful for you! i used to run and i did a few races (just running) before having children and i remember before my first race, my goal was the same as yours...to not be last. (i wasn't)and i guess i always think about the last finisher... how do they feel? did they have the same goal as us and not achieve it? i guess this is my big philosophical thought for the day...what is the last finisher thinking because we all know someone has to be last.
October 8, 2006 - 1:34 pm - Shannon! Way to go! Triathlons are kind of fun in a weird sort of way! Jami's talents didn't come from me...
October 25, 2006 - 8:13 am - good for you! a triathalon -- amazing!! and i would love to try your chili!! :)
Today Shelby was doing her homework. I was supposedly helping her.
But she pulled out her math homework and asked me a question.
I didn’t know the answer. Not only did I not know the answer, I had NO IDEA what the answer could be…it didn’t even sound a bit familiar. She pulled out a little glossary thing she had so I could read about it, but still…no idea. I had to end up telling her she was on her own with this one.
She’s in fourth grade! I was really hoping I wouldn’t have to experience this until at least 7th…
It feels pretty pathetic. I guess this is the point where they start taking on the teenage attitude where they think they know more than you. Because, apparently, in some cases, they do.
September 25, 2006 - 5:54 pm - My dad was so lost when I was in calculus.... Made me feel better about my own smarts. :)
September 25, 2006 - 6:26 pm - yep, kens is in the seventh grade. algebra. i will not be helping with this one.
September 25, 2006 - 10:38 pm - Welcome to Club Clueless... I am the President. I haven't been able to help my son with his math homework since 4th grade. I'm not proud. lol
September 26, 2006 - 7:49 am - I'm not sure where I ran across your blog...but I really enjoy reading it so Thank you! And today's entry ~ perfect! I went to my 6th graders curriculum night last night...Father, please help us all!
September 26, 2006 - 8:00 am - that is too cute! but seriously....i don't remember having it as hard as they do now...so early on. my friend's daughter is in 3rd grade and she's already into algebra...like numbers WITH letters and all that jazz....3RD grade...outrageous! hope all is well (otherwise) with you! - g
September 26, 2006 - 9:26 am - tristan is in second grade and we had that problem last night...SECOND GRADE. this is not ok with me. i had to write a note to the teacher and tell her we didn't understand therefor we couldn't help. how embarassing. she has GOT to think we're stupid.
September 28, 2006 - 4:11 pm - When you help her with stuff you are really good at, make a huge deal out of it! Then maybe she won't notice the "other" times...
September 29, 2006 - 8:02 am - oh shannon, don't feel bad.. i was a teacher before becoming a momma and my last year i was a math consultant and when i looked at some of the math for the older grades, i was blown away. it has changed so much!
September 29, 2006 - 9:31 am - That is just terrible! Math was always hard for me, and whenever I glance at some of the problems they give to younger kids I just scratch my head!!!
September 29, 2006 - 7:58 pm - eek! my day is coming soon as well. Let's just hope I MAKE IT to 4th grade...
October 2, 2006 - 4:42 am - it is that new fangled math blame it on that kellicrowe
October 2, 2006 - 6:51 pm - This is definitely a fear of mine when my kids get older, but not fourth grade!!!!!!
October 3, 2006 - 6:48 pm - *snort* I'm SOOOOO glad to know I'm not the only one who can't seem to help her kids so their math homework these days (6th & 8th grades!).
October 5, 2006 - 5:25 pm - I had this same experience with my 4th grader tonight. I find the whole situation hilarious and sad at the same time.
I go into Kohl’s to exchange a pair of shoes.
I end up spending $107.
And walk out with the same pair of shoes, decided the size I had was correct.
What was the use of that?!
(though I did end up with some cute stuff anyway…)
Same thing happens at Target.
September 20, 2006 - 4:32 pm - AArrgghhh!!! that happens to me all the time! Michaels is an especially bad one. I can even do that at the DI. or TJMaxx... What is with our universal obsession with "stuff"? and why cant we break the tie?
September 20, 2006 - 6:42 pm - I love Kohls...... What'd you get? Why didn't you invite me for your big spree? :)
September 20, 2006 - 9:07 pm - i hear you! i do that at target, too. and michaels. and too many other stores to list...
September 20, 2006 - 9:46 pm - I always do that at JoAnn's. I always HAVE to go in and use my 40% off coupon. And get like a bazillion other things. They don't lose any money on me, that's for sure!!
September 20, 2006 - 11:48 pm - Is there Kohls near you? Why do I not know that? LOL Geoff says that I just buy things so that I can return them & spend the $ on something else... says it's my master plan. LOL
September 21, 2006 - 10:33 am - hahahahaha!
September 21, 2006 - 2:31 pm - Kohl's is a dangerous place. And Target. And Costco. The list goes on and on. I HATED shopping as a kid. What happened? My cure for overspending is taking Steve along with me. He has about an 18 minute limit, then he's cooked. Can't go too crazy in that amount of time, usually. Hope you enjoy your stuff!
September 21, 2006 - 4:02 pm - TJ Maxx and More...evil store! I can't go in there... Then there's an issue with the art section at Barnes and Noble...took two books back yesterday (out of guilt for spending during our '30Days of Nothing' experiment)... Are we retail bait or what?!
September 22, 2006 - 8:58 pm - me too...UGH...me too!!! But I end up always getting stuff for everyone else but me!
September 23, 2006 - 9:43 am - Ha Ha - that just happened to me last week. I went into Kohl's to buy a "gift" really I did but I bought 3 other things for me. I also think there is a magical limit to this spontaneous spending. I think it is around 100.00 - any more and we couldn't live with the guilt! :-)
September 24, 2006 - 7:14 am - oooh, i love kohls too...and target! although we don't have a target here yet. they are beginning the building process, so i'll be glad when that's done. =) hope you like your new stuff.
