On our way home from the Gilroy Garlic Festival on Saturday, Dave made a new decree: Don’t pick your nose in the car unless you’re going to eat it.

When he blurted that out, it made me laugh so hard. Who says that? And he was serious. Parenthood.

Anyway… I promised I’d talk about the Hearst Castle. It was cool. We were just amazed at all of the beautiful art, the details, the fact that somebody actually lived in that house and had that life. We all talked about it for days afterwards. The kids loved it.

The fountain is made from statues from ancient Egypt. The art came from all over the world. Best museum ever! The indoor pool was empty for some repairs, but even so, it was breathtaking.

Kaija Mortensen - amazing! i love the kids photos and that castle (and yoru pictures of it) is stunning! add it to my list of bay area attractions i need to visit! where is it?

kent - Isn’t that place amazing?? Matt was drooling over all the antiques in there especially in the banquet hall. The indoor pool was empty too when we were that but that was I think almost 4 years ago.

cathy - Brad and I went there on one of our stops on our honeymoon:) and that is when we also learned that CA produces a lot of garlic. We had no clue! Please remember that we are both born and raised in OH ….:)

Kristen - Shannon! I have fallen off the face of the earth but I made it back safely and the first thing I did wasn’t kissing my children, but checking out your site! Oh. My. Heck. Girl!!! You freaking rock!

I am so sad! Look at your beautiful children! They are all so grown up! But such beauties. Yes, even the boys.

Will you STOP please taking such good pictures. Just for laughs (and to make the rest of us feel okay about our picture taking abilities) would you PLEASE throw in a really bad one once in a while? Humm? Please?

I love your site. I wish you’d blog more. But I won’t get whiny. :0)

Stefani Meyer - I love Hearst Castle and that whole area down there! Someday I’ll own a beach house near by. I love the picture of your kids. Franklin’s gloves are AWESOME! That was you clogging up the freeway through Gilroy? It took my family 2 hours to drive from San Jose to Monterey! I heard the festival was great though! Did you eat the garlic ice-cream?
