Last One.

(Franklin and me on this day, May 7… exactly 8 years ago. He’s 2 days old.) A mother’s body remembers her babies—the folds of soft flesh, the softly furred scalp against her nose. Each child has its own entreaties to body and soul. It’s the last one, though, that overtakes you. . . A first...

Hilary - That photo kills me, he’s still a tiny baby and I’m bringing you a casserole.
And that is all.

Lisa busby - Love love love this post. This really makes me want to savor these moments with our last one. Life is crazy, busy, our, very messy, and exhausting, but lovely and wonderful and this time, with little little kids and babies goes by too fast. I can’t believe he is 8! Thanks for making me take time to jut enjoy this time.

Monique - WOW!! I read this tonight with my new (and last) 10 week old baby in my lap……it brought tears to my eyes and summed up my feelings PERFECTLY. Thank you for putting your thoughts into such beautful words.

Stefani Meyer - Well I can tell we are in the same stage and the same train of thought. Thanks for putting in into words so amazingly. Happy Birthday to Franklin. I can’t believe I remember when he was born. Have we really known each other that long?? I know, I know, it’s been way longer.

Adri - Beautifully, Shannon!

Andrea - That’s it. I’m having another baby right now.

Joshua Trees

Ahhh… spring break. This year I struggled with the difficult decision of staying home and spring cleaning or going camping. Luckily, Dave managed to sneak away from work and drive us down to Southern California for some camping in Joshua Trees! As a kid, I went camping over spring break every year in Arches National...

Elizabeth - Wow. This is really inspiring—we are going to camp this summer in Vedauwoo for the first time with all of us—haven’t camped since before kids. It’s time to get back to it : )

Annette - How fun and adventurous and aahhhh, family bonding time is the best isn’t it! Very Cool Shannon! (loved learning about your love of climbing too)

Everyday Heroes

I’ve become kind of obsessed with this show Dave pointed out. It’s called Turning Point. It’s about everyday people making a difference with what they have, where they are. It inspires my brains out. Tears and goosebumps through every episode. For example, there’s an episode about a lady in the LA area who is a...

Linn - How have I not heard of these? Thank you for sharing, can’t wait to watch them!

April 5, 2012 - 7:09 am

Stefani Meyer - I’ve heard about this bus driver. I think I need to watch this show. (It’s probably more inspirational than Hoarders;)

April 5, 2012 - 1:13 pm

Thomalee - Adam just told me about this also. Have you seen the disabled sailor one? They really are so inspiring. Makes you want to do something for someone. I liked what you said about making a difference in your little piece of the world.

Mental Issues

(Piper and Shelby at the park last Sunday, taken with iPhone, processed with Instagram) I thought Piper had developed an eating disorder. She would go days without eating, turning her nose up at her food. Literally. It’d put it in the bowl, she’d go sniff it, turn her nose up, and walk away. Then, when...

Stefani Meyer - I’m pretty sure all dogs have a bit of neurosis (but then again I think their owners probably do too)
Piper is adorable btw

April 3, 2012 - 4:19 pm

Andrea - I think the only possible solution to this is that YOU taste the dog food, old and new, to determine if the problem is with her or you. And don’t scoff…I know your dog food eating secrets….!

More Treasures

(via) In all the “work” I’ve been doing recently (I recently told a friend I feel like I’ve been scratching and clawing my way out of a hole), I’ve done a lot of reading and thinking and praying. I’ve found that I pray best while I’m working out. I went for a swim the other...

Hilary - I really like that part about medication….

Life’s tough stuff. It sounds like you’re working through a lot. Smart girl. :)

March 29, 2012 - 9:03 pm

Andrea - I’m setting this aside and coming back to every last one of these links when I have a couple uninterupted hours (or more!) to spare. Thanks for finding all these gems!!!

March 30, 2012 - 7:24 am

Stefani Meyer - Ahh, Shannon, you’ve done it again, reached right inside my head and took out some of my thoughts. I’ve been feeling that way about running/working out for a long time. It clears my head (usually) makes me feel positive and I feel blessed to have a functioning body and mind. I also love, love love that picture about what I think I look like and what I actually look like. I know I look like a lame-o but it’s all good in the end. I’m definitely going to be reading some of those blogs. Thanks for sharing.

Oh and as soon as Annette and I get our girls back to school (mid April) we’ll be calling for a play date.

Brenda - Awesome post per usual. With one exception…our yard is dead and the sprinklers are broken so the the grass is literally greener on the other side in my case ;-)

Elizabeth - I have been thinking of you and all this wonderful writing you’re doing here a lot lately… so much to think about. I discovered Momastery around the same time as everyone else who didn’t already read it and I’m also hooked : )

Heather - Love A Blog About Love. I wish I could learn and stop making the same mistakes over and over. Maybe one day it will sink in. Please don’t stop writing. I love reading your insights and learning from your journey.
